Family sessions are where my love for a more natural, authentic style of photography bloomed from. As a mom, I yearn to capture my own babies in every stage of life. I want to look back and remember all the sweet and silly things they did, I want to see their perfectly imperfect little smiles, and I want to remember how much we laughed. I can work myself into a panic thinking about how fast they grow, and knowing I have an endless amount of photos eases that panic just a bit.
I achieve this style in a few ways. First, I give us all the time we need. kids are unpredictable, full of big feelings, and wildly curious and wonderful. This means that we might need to take breaks, try different things, move around, ect. I want us to have the time we need, without feeling rushed.
Another way I am able to capture authentic moments is by allowing them to happen. My sessions are kid led. I will always strive to capture a beautiful, smiley family photo, but I spend more time following y'all around as you walk and play with your kids. I want your session to feel like y'all.
The documentary style is a partnership. We have to work together, trust each other, and lean into whatever comes our way. The result is always worth it.
